North Shore Women’s Centre

Empowering women to achieve their full potential through workshops, counselling, advice, and support.

The Challenge:

  • They needed to communicate to and satisfy their existing audience, whilst attracting new/younger people too.
  • They wanted to rebrand, as they had had the same logo since they were established in 1987 and it did not represent them effectively to the public.
  • They needed a presence on Facebook.
  • They needed to be able to update their website themselves instead of needing a third party proficient in HTML to do it for them.

The Solution:

After much consultation, brainstorming, concepts, and development, we designed them a new logo. We also redesigned all of their publications i.e. brochures, business cards, letterheads. This new logo was bright and fresh, and aimed to appeal to all of the NSWC’s target audience.

We made them a Facebook page, and explained to them how to use it and its benefits for the NSWC in terms of exposure and website visits.

We attempted a viral campaign, by designing them a ‘badge’

Most importantly, however, we built them a new website on the free content management system Silverstripe, provided them with training on how to use it, and even made them a manual for future reference – this meant that they could update the site whenever they liked and the information on it would stay current and relevant.

The Result:

What did your team get out of the yMedia Challenge?

As a second year student, I personally learned so much through the Challenge. In summary:

  • How to work effectively as a team.
  • How to deal with a client.
  • The process of forming a brief and managing a project to completion.
  • The importance of clear and constant communication between team members/client/committees/any other stakeholders.

Apart from these great lessons, I also got to do a lot of networking and build relationships with relevant people in the industry, something which is an invaluable help for a recent grad looking for work.
